Gotická radnice města JihlavyGothic Townhall in Jihlava

The history of Jihlava's Townhall dates back to the half of the 13th century. This royal town was founded above an upper settlement to exploit rich silver veins in 1233-40 (mining started around 1234). The first settlers were concentrating by the wade on the opposite shore of Jihlava river.The history of the city hall begins in half of the 13th century.

Brána Matky BožíHolly Mother Gate

Its origin dates back to the second half of the 13th century when it was build as a part of the town bulwark system. It's the symbol of the town and the only gate that has been preserved until nowadays out of five medieval town gates. At present, the gate serves as a look-out tower.

 

Jihlavské podzemíJihlava Underground

Covering an area of 50 000 m2, the cold labyrinth of underground passages forms a 25 km-long system formed by medieval cellars and storage spaces. The passages, built in rock, are located on several floors and under almost all buildings in the historical centre of Jihlava.

 

Kostel sv. Ignáce z LoyolySt. Ignatius of Loyola Church

Open only during masses.
This single-bay church with three pairs of side chapels and a flat chancel termination is a typical early Baroque structure. Formerly belonging to the Jesuit Order, it was built during 1683-89 by Jacopo Brascha, Italian builder.

 

Vyhlídková věž sv. Jakuba VětšíhoSt. Jacob the Greater Church 

The tower of St. Jacob the Greater Church (Jacob's Square) is open to public visitors. The northern steeple, built at the beginning of the 14th century as a watchtower and measuring 63 meters in height, is nowadays used as a look-out tower. It had a pyramidal roof and figural paintings on the facade.

The fortification walls surrounding the growing town of Jihlava were built shortly after its official foundation, during the first half of the 13th century. Thanks to its strategic position on the boundary between Bohemia and Moravia, the newly founded royal town was considered not only an important commercial centre but also a point of prime military interest.

Židovský hřbitovJewish Cemetery

This historic monument is a significant reminder of the existence of the Jewish community. Founded in 1869, the cemetery has a surface of 8,879 m2 and has over 1000 tombstones. Its reconstruction was completed in 1993. It has an iron entrance gate, decorated with Jewish symbols, and commemorative metal plaques set into the face wall of the funeral parlor. 

Hornická naučná stezka Mining Educational Path

The path contains 10 standpoints with informational tables in the surroundings of Rudný peak, introducing the visitors to the former mining activities, history of the look-out tower on Rudný peak and natural places of interest. The path creates a closed circuit - its map can be found right at the first standpoint.

 

Historické centrum města TelčeHistorical centre of Telč

 For the historical cost of sights and for uniquely extant square Telč was listed in 1970 as a town monumental reservation and in 1992 go registered in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.In the 14th century Menhart of Hradec is supposed to have built the castle, church, water fortification and Gothic houses around the large marketplace.  

TřešťTřešť

Třešť is located south of Jihlava and his foundation was, undoubtedly, connected to silver mining in Jihlava Region. The oldest architectural monument of the city is the late Gothic parish church of St. Martin, located close to the Renaissance chateau, now being reconstructed into a hotel.

 

RoštejnRoštejn Castle

Roštejn Castle is located not far away from Třešť. It used to be a defensive castle with a typical seven-faceted tower and later it was rebuilt into a hunting chateau. After a great fire in 1915 the castle was deserted, turned into a ruin and it was not until the 1960 s that the property began to be slowly and completely restored and the castle got its present image.

Třebíč - Bazilika sv. ProkopaTřebíč - Basilica of St. Procopius und Jewish Quarter 

The sightseeings of Třebíč are like a living open-air museum. In 2003 these monuments were registered in the UNESCO list of cultural world heritage. Music and Kabala reading are often heard in the Jewish Quarter in the evenings. There are numerous wine-rooms, cafés and pubs and travelers from all over the world are resting on the shores of Jihlava River.
